It is estimated that your lighting choices can consume up to 25% of your home’s average energy budget. The electricity used over the lifetime of an incandescent bulb can cost 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself. When it comes to lighting your home or office, there has to be a better way. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) bulbs are the top choices in energy-efficient lighting.

1. What’s Wrong with Traditional Bulbs?
  • It is estimated that 90% of the energy given off by traditional incandescent bulbs is heat (rather than light). Essentially, the energy lost is money wasted on a form of energy that the bulb was not purchased to produce.

2. What are LEDs?
  • LEDs are able to provide your home or business with 85% more energy savings as compared to incandescents and are able to last up to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs. Quality LEDs not only last longer but they are more durable and offer comparable or better light quality than traditional lighting forms. The downside to LEDs is that they are more often expensive than their CFL counterparts but are able to pay off by not needing to replace the bulb very often. In the long run they are also able to help you with savings over time on your energy bill.

3. What are CFLs?
  • CFL bulbs are able to offer your home or business 75% more energy savings as compared to incandescent bulbs and last on average 10 times longer than traditional bulbs. They are often described as the curly version of the long tube fluorescent lights you may already have in a kitchen or garage. Inside of a CFL, an electric current flows between electrodes at each end of a tube containing gases. This reaction produces ultraviolet (UV) light and heat. The UV light is transformed into visible light when it strikes a phosphor coating on the inside of the bulb.
